You need a WiFi node about the size of a coin that can talk to your sensors and report back, but a full-size dev board is overkill for the enclosure you've got. This DuinoTech Wi-Fi Mini packs an 80 MHz ESP8266 with 4 MB flash into a board not much bigger than a coin. Eleven digital IO pins and one analogue input give you enough to wire up a temperature probe, a soil-moisture sensor, or a simple relay. The onboard 5V-to-3.3V converter means USB power is all you need. Drop it into the Arduino IDE, flash your sketch, and you've got an IoT node that fits where it needs to. A Prototyping Shield (XC3850) is available if you need extra hardware on board
